The company was named after a clumsy sailor, assistant of Captain Hook from the book called Peter Pan by Scottish novelist Sir James Matthew Barrie. Much like any other loyal assistant, Sailor Smee is always ready to help Captain Hook get out of trouble. This is exactly what we will be to our customers.
Instead of brick-an-mortar stores, Smee's operations are based on Internet sales which allow us to pass significant costs to our customers by buying directly from the manufacturer. In addition, on-line presence allows us to make our products available throughout Europe.
Exotic bamboo flooring, the sale of which is Smee's main activity, is the product of the future that has only recently started penetrating the European market. Bamboo flooring is a high-quality (30% harder than oak) yet environmentally friendly product. Compared to other types of timber, bamboo is a more common plant that matures in only five years.
The other great advantage of bamboo flooring is that it is factory-lacquered (7 layers of acrylic lacquer) in a dust-free chamber. The resulting high-gloss finish can be compared to the lacquer finish of a newly manufactured car. This method has replaced the old method of hand sanding and lacquering after the floor has already been installed on the base surface, leaving a dusty and uneven looking floor only a day after installing.
Finally, the greatest advantage of bamboo flooring is the price. Although this product is more advanced in comparison with classic flooring, its price is significantly lower considering the fact that bamboo flooring comes pre-lacquered and needs no sanding or lacquering. Apartment and house renovation thus becomes far easier since there is no need to wait until the toxic fumes of lacquer evaporate, which is the case with classic flooring, making it possible to move in only a day after installing the floor.
